Wagner College set out to promote its Health Sciences department in a distinctive way—by creating an original soundtrack rather than using royalty-free music. The concept was to record authentic sounds within the college’s labs and training rooms, then weave them into a custom score that would drive the rhythm and tone of the video.
With a tight schedule and flexible storyboard, the entire production—audio and video—was completed in a single day. A mobile production cart with wireless client monitoring allowed for quick movement between locations, including the nursing simulation lab, physician assistant labs, and biochemistry labs, ensuring efficiency and real-time collaboration.
Post-production centered on crafting the soundtrack in Logic Pro, transforming recorded lab sounds into layered loops that evolved with the visuals. Each element acted as its own “instrument,” refined in pitch, timbre, and rhythm. Once the music was complete, footage was edited to match the audio’s flow while highlighting Wagner’s hands-on learning environment. Shooting in RAW format provided full control during color grading, and pre-planned “text-plates” made room for clean, professional on-screen graphics.
The finished piece, Setting the Tempo, was submitted to the CASE (Council for Advancement and Support of Education) Circle of Excellence Awards, which honor outstanding achievements in marketing and communications. Out of 4,021 entries across 22 countries, the video earned the top distinction—Grand Gold—recognizing it as an “extremely exceptional, game-changing entry.”
The project combined authentic storytelling, technical creativity, and institutional pride—an experience made even more meaningful through the recognition it received.
